Grown in South Canterbury with Heart

The Pure New Zealand Buckwheat Company has been borne of the passion and vision of three likeminded farming families based on the fertile plains of South Canterbury in New Zealand.

Discussion over time led the “Pure New Zealand Buckwheat” family to realise that for the continued future proofing of their farms for their children and their children’s children, some change in the way they were working was required.

They needed to find a product that added to their sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices while allowing them to grow a new income stream that added value to the future of the farm and that would be of the most benefit to the end consumer.

Enter the heart shaped groats that are buckwheat.  From being a pest deterrent when companion planted alongside other crops, to a delicious and nutrient rich seed that is gluten free and can be used in everyday cooking.   In fact - the whole product can be utilised, including the honey that has been made by the bees pollinating the crop and the hull that the seed is housed in – you cannot get much more sustainable and user friendly than that!

During our research, we also realised that the buckwheat we found that is currently being stocked in supermarkets and shops throughout the country is imported!

Not so with Pure New Zealand Buckwheat, it is all sown, grown, harvested and processed right here – with heart – in South Canterbury, the heart of the South Island of New Zealand.

We also run an "Open Gate" farm policy so if you wish to learn more about the benefits of either our heart shaped superstar or honey and the ins and outs of its use as a cover crop, please contact us here to arrange a visit.
